Work Release Program

 Printer Friendly  Email

Once properly classified and determined suitable to enter the Winston County SHeriff's Office Work Release Program, inmates are allowed full-time gainful employment in the private sector. A portion of an inmate's wages are deducted and applied to the cost of the inmates confinement. The remainder of an inmate's wages are subject to child support, restitution, fines, court costs and to help provide support to their families while incarcerated.

It is our goal to establish a program that changes inmate conduct through effective community supervision facilitating inmate re-entry into society, while promoting an environment that mentors and encourages mutual respect, professionalism, career enhancement, positive morale and pride in order to become more productive citizens.

“Re-entry Begins at the Point of Entry”

The Winston County Sheriff's Office Work Release program is making great strides in developing a program that assists inmates In preparing incarcerated offenders for re-entry back into the community. Inmates have access to faith-based mentoring and vocational training, help with job placement and access to career development resources.
  • GED Program affords an inmate the opportunity to acquire a GED while incarcerated.
  • Career Ready Alabama Program is a job skills assessment system awarding Career Ready Certificates based on measurement and verification of skills critical to job success.
  • Ready to Work Program is an Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT) Program designed for those who need help with workplace fundamentals such as job acquisition skills, workplace behavior skills, team skills, communication skills and computer skills. Students who successfully complete the AIDT Ready to Work Program will receive a certificate designating them as an Alabama Certified Worker.
  • Inmate Volunteer Program provides an inmate the opportunity to give back to the community by volunteering his time and services in order to meet the needs of others and the needs of the community.
